Les Brown says this, OQP, and I think it’s something we should all think hard about. When we are on our way to success, there are so many things that can bring us down, so many difficulties we will face…so why make the people around us another difficulty?
If you’re sticking your neck out, taking chances, or pushing to be a better person, you want the people in your corner of the ring pushing for you and believing in you. You never see a boxer get in the ring and have his coach tell him he’s never going to win, or he doesn’t have a chance.
Make sure you surround yourself with people who will push you to do more and to do better. Surround yourself with encouragement and good advice.
And the classic argument to that is, “well if I did that, I’d have to leave ____. I’m always going to need family/friends.” Ok, yes, but maybe once you’re at the top, not on your way to the top. Larry Smith says in a TED talk: “When you look into the faces of your loved ones do you really want to see your jailers?” Stop using that as an excuse. Get the right people around you…it will make a huge difference.
